ELVIS MOVIE MAGIC MEETUP!

ELVIS on the big screen.

(Library Meeting Room)

We will be featuring:

* "JAILHOUSE ROCK" (MGM, 1957 - Elvis' third movie)

with Elvis Presley, Judy Tyler, Mickey Shaughnessy, Vaughn Taylor, Jennifer Holden

- After serving time for manslaughter, young Vince Everett (played by Elvis) becomes a teenage rock star.

- The movie featured the famed "Jailhouse Rock" dance number, along with "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care" and other great Elvis tunes

***********

* "LIVE A LITTLE, LOVE A LITTLE" (MGM, 1968 - Elvis' 28th movie)

with Elvis Presley, Michele Carey, Rudy Vallee, Don Porter, Dick Sargent, Celeste Yarnall

- Greg Nolan (played by Elvis) meets Bernice (Michele Carey), and loses both his job and his apartment. Bernice manages to get him a new apartment. Greg ends up getting two full-time 9-5 jobs as a photographer - but has to keep each boss from finding out about his other job.

- This year marks the 40th anniversary of this movie's release; the movie was done at a time when Elvis was making some changes in his movie career.

- The movie also features the songs "A Little Less Conversation" (which has become an Elvis classic within the last few years), "Edge of Reality", and two more songs.

**************************************************

Afterwards, we will have some extra time to show Elvis' performances from "The Ed Sullivan Show"

(1956 & 1957)

       It was real special to see Elvis in his best on the big screen singing Jailhouse Rock. You don't get to watch those movies on the big screen anymore. Live A Little, Love A Little is a forgotten favorite with some great songs. Everyone brought beverages and snacks for the movie. Thanks to Charlie, Mike and Tom for setting up our video. Tom made great poster boards with pictures of some of the stars in the movies, along with autographs and stories he shared with us. We learned facts that we never knew about the different friends and family appearing in Elvis' movies. It was just like the movie theatre only you could share it with other Elvis fans. The Library was very helpful and friendly helping us get set up. The weather was very bad and rainy, but our Elvis fans still showed up. Thanks to everyone for making it great. We all had a real nice time.
    •  Elvis rocks!
    •  It was great seeing these movies again. It brought back many memories and extra ones. I learned a lot of detail from the members who pointed out trivia in the movies and people in the movies that were Elvis' backup and band members and even his bodyguards who had flashing parts in the background. Then we had a good time discussing plans for the xmas party next month. The group pictures are always great. Alex
